Group warns deficit committee against 401(k) tax proposals

Tax proposals under consideration in Congress to help reduce the deficit could have negative consequences for 401(k) savings, the Employee Benefit Research Institute warns. The plans call for lowering or eliminating tax deductions on 401(k) contributions. The move would force many workers to reduce the amount they save and lead to lower account balances, the EBRI says.
