IEEE eyes standards, speedier optical Ethernet services

As telecoms and network vendors develop services, the IEEE has created a study group to investigate three new standards tied to advanced 100-Gbps short-range optical Ethernet connectivity that promise to address bandwidth issues within data-center operations and high-capacity campus networks. Another IEEE group is examining physical layer Ethernet standards above 100 Gbps.
