Sugary drinks raise risk of metabolic syndrome in women

Middle-aged women who consume two or more sugary drinks daily were nearly four times as likely to develop high triglyceride and blood glucose levels, regardless of weight gain, compared with women who drank less than one soda a day. The findings, presented at the American Heart Association's annual meeting, also showed women who drank two or more sodas a day had more belly fat.
