U.S. lawmakers say they'll work to avert "fiscal cliff"

Senior congressional leaders say they understand the urgency of preventing the "fiscal cliff," which will threaten the U.S. and global economies if spending cuts and tax increases take effect Jan. 1. The International Monetary Fund urged U.S. lawmakers to quickly reach an agreement.
