Australian consumer sentiment brightens

Despite persistent employment worries, Australian consumers' overall mood improved last month, rising 1.9% as gauged by the Westpac-Melbourne Institute consumer sentiment index. Westpac chief economist Bill Evans attributed much of the improvement to the housing market, where prices continue to balloon amid low interest rates.
