Experts encourage information-sharing among energy firms to fight cyber attacks

Experts who attended the American Petroleum Institute's Cybersecurity Conference & Expo in Houston on Nov. 12 encouraged energy companies to share information about cyber attacks and related incidents in order to protect the industry. Enterprise Products Partners' Information Technology Security Director Stuart Wagner said companies are hesitant to share such data for fear that the information might leak and destroy their reputation. Information-sharing among industry players can help firms mitigate exposure and avert the same threats that other companies encountered, said Mandiant Director David Cowart.
