FTC is urged to investigate NSA access to Google, Yahoo databases

A letter to the Federal Trade Commission asks the agency to look into the National Security Agency's secret access to Google's and Yahoo's networks. "It is inconceivable that when faced with the most significant breach of consumer data in U.S. history, the Commission could ignore the consequences for consumer privacy," the letter from several advocacy groups says. Government officials sought to justify their data-collection and disclosure policies at a Senate subcommittee hearing on Wednesday.
