Installation of a metal roof is underway at the Old Main School building in Salem, Ark., in a bid to help preserve the historic facility. "We decided to put a metal roof on the building because we found the old roof is in better shape than expected. The wood under the shingles is not plywood, it is one by twelves that still provide a good, strong base," said Ron Plumlee, member of the Fulton County Heritage Foundation. The roof work also called for removal of two chimneys because they caused leaks on the structure.
