MedPAC may call for hospice coverage in Medicare managed care

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission may recommend to Congress that Medicare Advantage managed care plans be required to cover hospice stays. This coverage currently is only available in fee-for-service Medicare and the change may allow patients to continue curative treatment while receiving hospice care. "From a beneficiary's perspective, this is exactly what they need to move toward a seamless journey," said registered nurse Mary Naylor of the NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health at the University of Pennsylvania.
