Shoppers to spend 4% more on gift cards this year, survey says

About 80.6% of consumers will buy gift cards this holiday season, spending an average of $163.16, a 4% increase over last year, according to an NRF survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. Department store and restaurant gift cards will be the most popular, and consumers 65 and older are expected to spend the most on gift cards, the survey found.
