Sprint, T-Mobile to sit out Jan. 22 H Block auction

T-Mobile US and Sprint have decided not to take part in the planned Jan. 22 H Block auction, which leaves DISH Network as the lone major bidder for the spectrum. Sprint issued a statement Wednesday that it would rather buy low-band spectrum than bid for the 10 MHz of 1900 PCS frequencies the Federal Communications Commission plans to auction. Sprint Chief Financial Officer Joseph Euteneuer said the carrier "felt comfortable" with its spectrum capacity, adding that the auction's rules were a factor in Sprint's decision.
