Study: Removing NP practice restrictions would reduce health care costs

Nurse practitioners offer high-quality and low-cost care at retail clinics, and the costs would be lowered further if scope of practice restrictions for NPs were removed, according to a study in Health Affairs. Savings would increase by $810 million if all states gave NPs independence and $472 million if NPs were allowed to both practice and prescribe independently, the study found.
