Study: Small firms experience lackluster sales growth

Sales growth at small, privately owned companies has sputtered along at a meager rate in 2013 after hitting a healthy 7% in the previous two years, according to research from Sageworks. That could be bad news for small-business hiring, given that firms were reluctant to add new employees even when sales growth was stronger.
