Chains make it tougher to buy a franchise

Many restaurant chains are tightening their requirements for prospective franchisees amid the tougher economy, according to this report. At Popeyes, only people who have already owned and operated restaurants need apply, and Firehouse Subs now holds hard and fast to its 30% down requirement; both chains say their tougher standards are paying off in higher sales and more successful stores.
