Focus on predictive maintenance makes U.K. rail line more reliable

U.K.-based East Coast Main Line dramatically increased its reliability -- in part by revamping its maintenance procedures so that critical equipment is carefully monitored and maintenance teams are kept up-to-date on items that are close to failure, writes Terry Whitley. The rail line also established clear performance goals for management, Whitley adds.
