Study: Houston needs a floodgate to mitigate hurricane risk

A floodgate is necessary along the Houston Ship Channel to make the city better prepared for major hurricanes, according to a study from researchers led by Rice University. The study's recommendations also include building more levees and a 130-mile coastal recreation area that would serve as a flood barrier.
