The U.S. government is delaying offshore oil and natural gas drilling as other countries are moving forward with their own development projects, writes Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. Her op-ed comes in response to the government's proposed five-year offshore-leasing program, which includes some parts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Arctic region but leaves out the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. "[W]e fail to boost our offshore production at our own expense. America's neighbors are not drilling for fun or for sport; they've chosen to proceed to create new jobs, generate new revenues, and increase the energy supply and prosperity of their citizens," Murkowski adds.
