Firms plan monetary penalties for workers missing health goals

The Affordable Care Act allows employers to impose charges on workers who do things that compromise their health, and companies are getting ready to put that new authority to use. An Obesity Action Coalition study of companies that require employees to participate in wellness programs to receive full health benefits showed 67% of workers had to satisfy a weight-related health goal and 60% did not have coverage for fitness training, dietary counseling, obesity drugs or bariatric surgery.
