Industry observers expect passage of Shaheen-Portman bill next year

While the Senate may not vote on the Shaheen-Portman energy-efficiency bill by the end of this year, industry experts are optimistic for a vote next year. The measure, brought to the Senate floor in mid-September, has been delayed by unrelated amendments. "What's happening now is, Senator Reid is basically waiting to see if there are assurances that there are 60 votes or more" to guarantee passage of the bill, said Steven Nadel, executive director of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
