An open Fed is more effective, more legitimate, Bernanke says

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Wednesday at a town hall meeting for teachers that during his tenure, the Fed has become more open about discussing its policy decisions with the public. "The complex challenges we face as a nation are best addressed in an environment of informed public discourse, which is only possible when policy decisions are made in as transparent a way as possible," said Bernanke, who is set to step down from the post in January.
