Study links diabetes to weaker bones in older women

Postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes showed significantly lower bone material strength and had more hyperglycemia over the previous decade than those in the control group, a small study indicated. The findings, published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, suggest that diabetes may play a role in the onset of osteoporosis and that bones should be recognized as being prone to diabetes complications, researchers said.
