U.S. trade, jobs data point to weaker economy

An upward revision in recent numbers for U.S. jobless benefit applications and a widening trade deficit in September add to signs of weakness in the nation's economy. The 8% rise in the trade gap, to its highest level since May, also suggests that the third-quarter growth estimate is likely to be revised downward.
