White space is tapped to expand access for rural colleges

Declaration Networks Group and a coalition of education groups and tech firms that it helped found, known as AIR.U, have launched an initiative to boost broadband capacity in rural college towns via unused television spectrum. The Quick Start Network represents the next step in a process that began in 2012 at West Virginia University, which has relied on white space frequency to support wireless capacity of 12 Mbps, with the ability to scale to 100 Mbps.
