Colleges advise students to show depth, not breadth of volunteerism

Now that more high schools are requiring community service hours for graduation, college admissions officials are taking a more critical approach to assessing applicants' volunteer work. Admission counselors prefer that a student's application show deep commitment and personal growth through involvement in meaningful, carefully chosen activities.
