Microsoft to play key role in Portland Wi-Fi rollout

Microsoft is getting into the municipal Wi-Fi business, via a deal with MetroFi, which is building a Wi-Fi service in Portland, Ore. The software giant has signed on to serve ads that will appear on MetroFi customers' Web browsers, and also plans to offer a variety of Internet extras, such as local search and mapping.
