Construction of Panama Canal locks to begin in January

Construction on a new set of locks for the Panama Canal will begin in January, according to GUPC, the consortium behind the project. GUPC, led by Spanish company Sacyr Vallehermoso, submitted the winning bid at $3.1 billion. The Panama Canal, originally built in 1904, is being widened to accommodate today's larger ships.
