Daily Economic Indicator: Retail sales likely increased

Economists expected an increase in retail sales as consumers play a larger role in the economic recovery. The median estimate of a survey of 67 economists was for an increase of 0.7%. The Commerce Department is poised to release its report on retail sales this morning. Another report is expected to show an expansion of manufacturing in New York.
