Michigan district bans birthday cupcakes from class

One Michigan school district has banned cupcakes from school birthday celebrations. Instead, students in the Alma district who are celebrating a birthday will spend an extra half hour in gym class as part of a statewide effort to improve student health and curb childhood obesity. Supporters of the new policy say it will improve students' eating habits, while critics say the cupcake ban punishes all students because of the unhealthy habits of a few.
