New England businesses pay the price for hiring illegal immigrants

Several businesses in New England have paid fines to federal immigration officials for hiring illegal immigrants. The government is penalizing businesses that employ undocumented workers because these encourage illegal immigration in the country by providing immigrants with jobs. In New England, fines increased from $14,534 in 2008 to $118,000 in 2010.
