Oregon wrestles with shortage of food-animal veterinarians

With animal agriculture being a key industry in Oregon, an official with the state's Veterinary Medical Association expressed a concern over the shortage of in-state veterinarians working with food animals, which he said total to only 11%. The trend is also felt nationwide as reflected by a recent AVMA survey that showed only 4.4% of younger veterinarians are involved in food animal or mixed-animal practice.
