White House and Republicans edge toward a tax-cut compromise

While a final deal hasn't been struck, the White House and Republicans signaled that they are moving toward an agreement to adopt some form of extension to Bush-era tax breaks. David Axelrod, President Barack Obama's senior political adviser, said Obama favors an extension for the middle class but is against a permanent extension for wealthier taxpayers. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., indicated he might be willing to discuss that approach with the White House.
