Boeing, Airbus work on standard for using RFID to monitor parts

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to certify Boeing's plan to use RFID technology to keep track of parts in service on commercial and military aircraft. Boeing and Airbus are working together to develop standards so that electronic records can be kept on the service histories of each airplane part. About 2,000 parts could be tagged on a typical airliner.
