Companies clash over phytosterols rule

Raisio and Unilever disagree about a proposed U.S. regulatory rule change over health claims associated with phytosterols. The agency suggests that the term phytosterols should refer to sterols and stanols, a move Unilever supports. Raisio uses plant stanol esters and opposes the proposal, saying that the EU does not use the term to include both sterols and stanols. Other companies are also opposing the rule.
