Georgia's Vogtle nuclear project to create 3,500 construction jobs

Southern Co. is proceeding with the construction of non-nuclear features of two planned reactors at its Plant Vogtle in Georgia, even though the company has yet to secure a combined construction and operating license for the units from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. "We're on schedule, even if we can't begin full nuclear construction until we have our combined operating license," said Todd Terrell, the company's nuclear development communications director. Southern will need about 3,500 workers for the expansion project.
