Hazmat accidents more likely on highways than rails in Pa. county

A recent study by the Department of Public Safety in Westmoreland County, Pa., found that accidents involving the transportation of hazardous materials are more likely to occur on roads than rails. In the past 10 years, no railroad accident in the county involved hazardous chemicals, while a total of 271 accidents in the county involved trucks that carry hazardous materials, the study found.
