L.A. teachers seek referendum on new teacher evaluations

A group of Los Angeles teachers, who are part of the coalition "Teachers for a New Unionism," are pushing for a referendum on a measure that would require the United Teachers Los Angeles union to support "teacher-led" changes to the district's new teacher-evaluation system. The group has gathered about 630 signatures in support of the measure, which also would force a moratorium on teacher layoffs while the new evaluations are implemented.
