N.Y. officials make changes to special-education requirements

A New York state Board of Regents subcommittee voted to approve a series of cost-saving changes to the state's special-education requirements. Over the objections of two committee members, the board voted to eliminate the requirement that a "parent member" serve on committees that review students' individualized education plans. However, in response to public feedback on the issue, the approved changes included the reinstatement of a mandate that a school psychologist be part of the committee.
