In-person and phone-based counseling show weight-loss efficacy

Data on 415 participants showed that those who underwent telephone-based weight-loss counseling and in-person coaching lost an average of 4.6 and 5.1 kilograms, respectively, at 24 months, compared with 0.8 kg in the control group. About 38% of those who had phone-based care and 41.4% in the in-person coaching group lost at least 5% of their body weight, compared with 18.8% in the control group, experts said. The findings appear in The New England Journal of Medicine.
