Shell site's valve system makes diagnostics easier

Shell has installed about 2,300 control and process safety valves connected to controllers at its Eastern Petrochemicals site in Singapore. This allows maintenance workers to access diagnostic information about the valves. The system "takes all the guesswork out of valve maintenance and avoids having to deploy field operators to remove a valve from the line and open it up to see if there really is a problem or not," said Peter Beerepoot, Shell ECC Project, manager of process automation group and instrumentation.
