Calls for a multiyear extension followed by a planned phaseout of the wind-energy Production Tax Credit are gaining traction in Congress because they would give the industry policy stability. A "multiyear extension would be more effective for manufacturers" to account for a length of time needed to plan and execute projects, according to a letter sent to Congress by the bipartisan Governors' Wind Energy Coalition. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said he likes the idea and would support a gradual winding down of the tax incentive of about 20% per year.
