High on the National Transportation Safety Board's 2013 "Most Wanted List" is the implementation of positive train control systems. PTC would reduce human error in the operation of trains, according to the NTSB. The Association of American Railroads says that while it is committed to expanding the use of PTC, implementation faces many challenges, adding that the industry is on pace for its safest year. "The mandate and implementation of PTC is an unprecedented undertaking and, despite nearly a decade of research and development, still faces significant hurdles to deployment," said AAR President and CEO Edward Hamberger.
