Ala. starts statewide transition to all-IP 9-1-1

Alabama has inaugurated its Next Generation Emergency Network with the commencement of the first phase of all-IP routing of emergency service calls in the state. As of early November, the network had seven public safety answering points operational, but officials say it will be at least three years before all 115 of them are up and running, and all wireless and wireline 9-1-1 calls are routed through the system.
