Google Books service doesn't violate copyrights, judge says

A federal judge has determined that a Google initiative that involves creating digital copies of books does not run afoul of copyright law. Google Books "advances the progress of the arts and sciences, while maintaining respectful consideration for the rights of authors and other creative individuals, and without adversely impacting the rights of copyright holders," according to Judge Denny Chin. The Authors Guild, which filed a lawsuit challenging the program, is gearing up for an appeal.
