Web standards task force to recommend widespread use of encryption

The Internet Engineering Task Force will soon complete a proposal recommending that data transferred over the open Internet be encrypted amid concerns about government spying of citizens. The IETF working group in charge of recommendations for the Hypertext Transfer Protocol revision is fielding a variety of proposals on how to make it work, Chairman Mark Nottingham said.
