Google launches classified ad service

Google yesterday launched Google Base, an ambitious information databasing project that should put the company in a position to compete with eBay, CareerBuilder and craigslist for a piece of the $100 billion per year classified advertising market, industry executives say. The registration-only service invites users to submit classified advertising, but also event listings, personal profiles, product reviews and recipes, to the new service.
