Study: Literacy affects treatment of HIV patients

Compliance with HIV treatment is greatly influenced by the literacy levels of patients, according to researchers, who found that some HIV-infected people with low literacy levels fail to follow medication instructions. The study, conducted in the U.S., also found a racial disparity, with black HIV patients more likely to be nonadherent to their regimens than their white counterparts.
