Hawaii governor makes push to end "furlough Fridays"

Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle is calling for an end to the state's teacher-furlough days beginning in January, saying that 27 lost instructional days for the current school year through 2011 can be avoided by using the state's rainy-day fund. Lingle also is suggesting using noninstructional days for learning -- a move that would require negotiations with the teachers union.
