Amgen reportedly plans to approach Actelion about a takeover

Amgen is thinking of making a bid to purchase Actelion, as the biotech company looks to expand globally and gain treatments for rare conditions, sources said. Actelion might be approached by Amgen as early as this week, the sources said. "Amgen has talked about geographic expansion, and Actelion seems to have a strong business in Europe and in the specialty-drug market, selling drugs for rare diseases at premium prices," an analyst said.
