Connecticut is investing in passenger-rail cars. The state has 342 rail cars on order from Kawasaki Rail Car, worth $860 million. The M-8 cars feature state-of-the-art safety and energy-saving features, and will replace a fleet that dates to the 1970s. Gov. Jodi Rell rode between New Haven and Fairfield in the first M-8 that was delivered.
