Homeowners' small fix-up projects lift Lowe's profits

Lowe's reported a 17.4% increase in net income for the third quarter, compared with the same quarter in 2009. Homeowners are painting rooms, replacing toilets and handling small home-improvement projects but holding off on purchasing big-ticket items. Lowe's CEO Robert Niblock said he didn't expect more growth "until housing prices recover and unemployment falls substantially."
